Clean Water for Villa America

The Treasure Valley EWB Chapter is pleased to announce that we were selected to partner with the Villa America community! EWB is working to bring a safe, reliable drinking water source to a small community in the remote jungle of Peru, and we need your help!

Project Purpose/Objectives:  Clean Water for Villa America

·      Provide better water for the homes for cooking, cleaning, and personal hygiene that will improve health and lifestyle. Reduce the incidence of water-borne and water-related disease.
  • The health of the families is the biggest need and challenge of this program-project.
  • Health problems such as parasites affect the children, their nutrition and growth. Other illnesses keep adults from working to provide for their families.

Our Project:

The Chapter traveled to Villa America, Peru in 2015 and 2016 to meet with the community to understand their needs and environmental constraints.

After our 2016 site assessment trip we concluded that a groundwater well would be the best option for the community. Our group is currently in the design phase of our project, and working to raise the money to begin construction in 2017. We have estimated the well construction and basic pipeline system will cost $45,000.

A key component of EWB’s philosophy is community engagement and ownership. EWB requires the community to contribute 5% of the total project cost. With an annual household income of $750/year, raising over $2000 for basic infrastructure is no small task.
